October 2008
K4 hosted a charitable event in Arlington, VA, to raise donations of canned goods for a D.C. based charity called Bread for the City. After tripling their donation goal, K4 volunteers regrouped on Saturday morning to bag the donations and deliver them to the charity’s corporate office in downtown D.C. In addition to raising and delivering the donations, team K4 volunteered to spend the afternoon stuffing grocery bags and distributing them to eligible families.
“It is especially rewarding to take part in this initiative at a time when food costs are rising and more people are in need of assistance,” said Vinay Raman, a K4 volunteer.
Last year Bread for the City staff and volunteers provided groceries to thousands of hungry people, an average of 4,985 households each month. However, this year– according to the U.S. Census Bureau– food prices have risen over 6 percent, so the need for donations to local charities is at an all time high.
